Animania September 2015 Screening

Hello everyone, and welcome back to a new academic year of Animania! We’ve decided to change it up and try out a new screening format this semester. We’ll start earlier in the afternoon (closer to our 4:00 PM starts of yore), but also end earlier as well (we’re targeting 8:00 PM). We’re going to feature one show and one movie each screening, as well as some more engaging content. Check out the schedule for more details!

As always, we welcome your feedback at

Date: September 26, 2015
Time: 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: North Quadrangle Space 2435 (105 S. State St. Ann Arbor, MI 48109)
University of Michigan, Central Campus, Ann Arbor
There will be signs posted in various locations to aid in locating the screening room.
The State Street side entrance will be the only entrance point open into North Quadrangle.

(Some synopses modified from Anime News Network and Crunchyroll)

3:30: Anime Jeopardy
Anime Jeopardy makes its debut at a screening, run by Animania’s own comedy duo, our President Omar Rifai and Vice President Tad Conrado, and featuring a question bank from the minds of Animania’s executive board members.

4:30: Hataraku Maou-sama (The Devil is a Part-Timer!)
Episodes 1-3
In another dimension, the Devil King Sadao is only one step away from conquering the world when he is beaten by Hero Emilia and forced to drift to the other world: modern-day Tokyo. As “conquering the world” are the only skills the Devil King possesses – and are obviously unnecessary in his new situation – he must work as a freeter to pay for his living expenses.

5:30: Takoyaki
An anime favorite returns to Animania’s screenings! Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made from a wheat flour-based batter, and traditionally filled with diced octopus (tako), and first popularized in Osaka. The version we make at the screening features hot dogs or shrimp, and we will also be making a vegetarian version as well.

6:25: Raffle

6:30: Ghost in the Shell (Movie) (1995)
In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as “The Puppetmaster” begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically enhanced cops, is called in to investigate and stop the Puppetmaster. The pursuit will call into question what makes a human and what is the Puppetmaster in a world where the distinction between human and machine is increasingly blurry.
